Flashing 4x4 high and 4x4 low dash lights
« on: February 13, 2006, 02:35:24 PM »
Last week the dash lights that would normally only go on in our 97 Explorer( 128K miles) if the transmission were in 4wheel high or 4 wheel low, started flashing intermittently.....even though the transmission was in 4 wheel auto. Nothing else changed. Everything about the truck behaves normally except for those occasionally flashing lights. Any ideas?

??? ??? ??? Without my hands on the vehicle, I couldn't tell you, but have you set 4HI and 4LO to see if the lights still flicker? Actually, are they flickering intermittently or flashing regularly? When they flash, that is an indication of a transfer case drive motor or computer problem. A good shop
that does drivability diagnosis can do that for you. Let me know what you do, OK? It's Handy_Andy_CV64@Hotmail.com.

:-[ This problem may be with the 4x4 module and i believe there may be a TSB or SSM related to your concern, Check with a dealer and they may be able to help  And remember to go easy on them, they didnt build the thing

Guess I got a new group to chat with - my wife felt the need for another ford - I have the ABS and blinky 4x4 light thing too.  I'm going to change the cheap sensor on the differential before I hand it over to the money extractors.  Figure it's cheaper than 300 bucks for the ABS tester.  Anybody got any test info for the front sensors - resistance range?
