Saddleback (Southern California) - October 29, 2006
« on: October 25, 2006, 07:20:06 AM »
This is the official notice of the Saddleback day run being planned for October 29, 2006. This will be a fun run to test out our junk. It's ok to show up without a Dodge... Dodge vs Toyota will continue where we left off after Earl gets a tire and I get a radiator and/or electric fan. ;D

The trail is just a couple miles from my house (off El Toro and 5 FWY in Lake Forest) in Silverado Canyon and goes over the mountain between OC and the IE. It ends on Ortega Hwy (HWY 74) just west of Lake Smell Some'more. The whole trail takes about 3-4 hours and it's a good 20-30 miles of dirt and gets up to just over 5K feet. Nothing too hard but there are some play areas that are fun. Views are amazing! You can see all of So Cal from up there.

Looks like it will be a later weekend though. John needs me to help him with his truck and I'm laid up with the bump knee again. I thought I got this thing fixed?

Oh well, maybe the weekend b4 Turkey day? As long as it's not raining the road should be open 'til spring'

That's cool! This weekend really snuck up on me. Weekend before Turkey day is good for me.

Post up the info for Jed's bday run as it plans out.

I've got lots of parts on order... I hope some of them get here on Friday... ;D

Ortega Hwy is closed today due to fire.  No telling how long that will last or what impact if any it will have on the trail.
Wanted: Set of 80's style gold mod/nugget wheels in good condition.

I woke up late last night and let the dog out... I could smell the smoke from some distant fire... Let's hope for the best...

Ortega is still open and there are no fires in OC right now. We are getting the smoke from the big fire in Cabazon. HWY 74 might be closed in Riverside around Hemet but this end by Saddleback is wide open, except for the accident that happened about 5 minutes ago 3 miles north of Antonio Pkwy (CHP website). Whether the trail still is is another story. They tend to close EVERYTHING when a fire breaks out so they can limit it to just one incident. Would have been a heck of a site from up there!
